The ugly Covid side effect no one talks about: Australians are losing their hair in clumps after falling ill – here’s how you can grow it back

  • One of the lesser-known symptoms of getting Covid is losing clumps of hair
  • This happens as a result of fever sufferers usually have and the stress of illness
  • Australian brand Aede has seen its sales of hair supplements explode recently
  • Customers are testing out the tablets in a bid to regrow some of their lost hair
  • The results are staggering with ingredients like riboflavin, biotin and silicon

An Australian haircare brand has seen sales of its hair growth supplement skyrocket in the past 12 months because the average Covid patient is suffering from the lesser known side effect of hair loss.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association (AAD) discovered that those who had a raging fever while struck down by the virus – and were stressed abought work or their family as a result of it – were likely to see ‘large clumps of hair’ falling out months after they recovered.

Aede, which sells the premium $60 hair supplement Hair Activist, saw a 250 per cent increase in sales after Sydneysiders were released from a four month lockdown in September 2021 and the virus spread more rapidly than ever before.

Biotin (vitamin B7) and Niacin (vitamin B3) also help to assist scalp health by boosting blood circulation, and relieve irritation and flaking.

Both men and women have noticed considerable changes to the length and thickness of their hair in the first three months of using the product after a Covid diagnosis.

‘Has been amazing for my hair. Love how thick it has been especially at the ends. I also noticed when I had a gap between deliveries of three weeks my hair fall was dramatically more without it and has already reduced since being back on it for the past two weeks,’ one woman commented.

‘Have been using for a few months now. My hair has definitely grown faster and the breakage around my hairline seems to have improved. I am using a special hair shampoo too so I think the combination of both is working well for my hair,’ said another.

A third added: ‘My hairdresser was shocked how fast my hair started to thin recently. I looked and looked and found this supplement, and since returning to him for an appointment eight weeks later – he too has started taking it due to how impressed he is’.

Adults should take one capsule twice a day with food to see the astonishing results in action.

‘There seemed to be a consistent theme throughout conversations with many of our clients expressing concerns around hair loss, thinning, shedding and scalp complaints,’ owner of Aede and haircare professional Ruth Robalino said.

‘When looking for something I could recommend I was disappointed with the solutions available. Most supplements had few active ingredients – a problem when the source of hair loss, shedding and scalp imbalance can be caused by a multitude of factors.

‘Another issue I encountered was the lack of transparency. Formulations containing mainly excipients, preservatives, sugar and even toxins, and brands that didn’t disclose where their supplements were made and tested.

‘As a professional, people came to me, making me accountable for the results and trusting that my knowledge would extend to assist them with all of their hair needs.

‘This led me down a path of wanting to solve the problem myself. After two years of research, development and testing our first formulation Hair Activist was created – a product created by experts that professionals would want to recommend to their clients.’

The AAD claims that hair shedding after a fever can last up to nine months before it stops.
