Back pain is the kind of pain that can completely change a person’s life forever. Having a “bad back” can stop you from being comfortable, stop you from being active, and can cause you to lose sleep and see a decline in your health. In order to stop that from happening, there are steps you can take that will keep your back healthy and strong. Here is how to prevent back pain.

Have Good Posture

Your posture is so important. Slouching or hunching your shoulders can push your muscles into precarious positions and can put you at a higher risk for back injury. Do yourself a favor and sit up straight and stand up straight. When you have great posture, your back muscles will be in place and they will be stronger.

The simple act of engaging your muscles into a good posture will be like working them out and your back will be super strong and your risk of back pain will be reduced.

Exercise Your Back

Doing back exercises will keep the muscles strong and will give you a great defense against back pain or injury. Strong muscles are like a wall that protects your spine and your body. Doing back strengthening exercises throughout the week will give you a strong back.

Doing any kind of exercise that requires you to pull will help engage your back muscles. Exercises like rowing, raising your hands above your head and pulling down on weights, or lower back exercises like crunches and laying on your stomach and only raising your legs and arms will all make your back stronger. Practice these exercises and move further away from back pain.

Get a Mattress Cover

If you need to add some comfort to your mattress, find the best mattress topper for back pain. When you are able to sleep comfortably without having your back all twisted up or out of shape means that your muscles will stay in place, and the discomfort won’t create a weak spot where you can run the risk of hurting yourself.

If your body is well while you are at rest, when you wake up, you will be able to pop out of bed with ease and get your day going. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and as soon as you wake up in the morning to keep muscles healthy and hydrated.

Don’t Over Do It

Don’t lift anything too heavy and don’t overwork your back muscles. Handle what you can and if you need assistance with something, ask for help. Overexerting yourself will only lead to an injury that may be potentially irreversible.

Also, wear the right shoes. If you are walking around all day in weak-soled shoes or the wrong shoe for the activity you are partaking in can cause pressure and pain on your lower back. Having the right amount of comfort and support for your feet where and when you need it will reduce your risk of hurting your back as you are running or walking around town.

By taking these steps to prevent back pain, you have more of a chance of living a more full life.
