Sarah Hyland became a household name thanks to her breakout role as Haley Dunphey in Modern Family in 2009. But since ending the show in 2020 the 31-year-old actress is pursuing new ventures including a new LGBTQ rom-com My Fake Boyfriend and recently signing on as co-founder with Sourse, a vitamin-infused line of chocolate supplements.
“When I joined the Sourse team in March, I made it my mission to work to develop life-changing products that benefit everyone who tries them,” Sarah recently told New Beauty. “I have poured my heart and soul into creating this sweet treat with wellness in mind and can’t wait for my friends and family (and the rest of the world!) to upgrade their health and beauty routines with these tasty vitamins!” The celeb shared more about the collaboration, how she stays in a positive state of mind, and what she likes to do with her fiancé during their downtime via an email interview for the January/February issue of WH. Keep reading to see what all she had to say.
Women’s Health: When do you feel your best/most beautiful? Can you explain a little about why that is?
Sarah Hyland: “When I step into my power. Now that can be as something as small as achieving a personal goal for the day, to killing a really hard work out, or something as big as making a big business decision. Being proud of one’s self is the most beautiful thing a person can wear, and i know i always feel amazing in that moment. Owning and harnessing your power as a woman is a force of nature.”
WH: When you need a little boost of positivity or motivation, are there any words, advice, or mantras you turn to?
SH: “I try to remind myself of where I’ve been, what I’ve done, and where i am. There’s nothing like the reminder that you’ve been through the trenches before and made it out alive, to jolt you into action. You are strong. You are resilient. You are fearless.”
WH: If so, can you share an example of a time you used those words and how they helped you through that period?
SH: “Literally any time I’m in pain. Whether it’s an endometriosis flare up, a bout of depression, a uti, etc…”
WH: What do you like to do to unwind after a crazy day/week?
SH: “To be honest, I sit on the couch to eat tacos with my fiancé, Wells, and watch tv while the dogs impatiently await food scraps. But if I’m by myself? I sit in the middle of a circle of candles, pull cards, and listen to Madi Diaz’s newest album (thank you Kathryn Gallagher 😉 )”
WH: What are some beauty products you can’t live without, and why?
SH: “Sourse Beauty Bites! I truly cant live without biotin because my [endometriosis] medication can cause my hair to thin. What better way to treat my hair than with a sweet treat 🙂
My diffuser. My hair is so curly and without my diffuser attachment the frizz is OUT of control. Having curly hair is an every day surprise, but at least with that tool i know it’s going to be somewhat manageable haha.
Ilia limitless lash mascara. 1.) They’re a clean beauty brand (which i love) 2.) the brush has two sides, one to coat and the other to separate the lashes. I’m obsessed. I don’t even need to use an eyelash curler.
Aquaphor. It can be used in a variety of ways. First aid kit. Lip balm. Glossy eye. I dont go anywhere without it. In fact i have a giant vat of it in my bathroom right now.”
